Department of Music and Performance Arts

    Department of Music and Performing Arts is established to provide students a well thought and designed environment to develop high leveled skills and mastery on the techniques of the field, capability of following recent developments, interactive relations with other artistic and cultural media and contribution to the field by original works.
    The Department of Music and Performing Arts offers two programs: "Composition and Music Theory Program" and "Opera-Choir and Popular Music Singing Program." Composition and Music Theory Program intends to train students to create music works such as symphonies, operas, concertos, sonatas, film music, commercial music while Opera-Choir and Popular Music Singing Program" intends to bring up the students to soloist level with high skills of singing performance. Both programs will start in the academic year 2004-2005.
    The Orchestra Academic Başkent, another branch of the Department of Music and Performance Arts, has been established for academic and professional purposes in 2003. Orchestra Academic Başkent intends to develop consciousness and appreciation of music in general by organizing multi purpose, explanatory, specially designed activities.
     The Orchestra is configured as a string chamber orchestra, currently consisting of 24 members including violinists, violists, violoncellists, contrabassists, Music Director - Conductor and Artistic Administrator.
    Members of the Orchestra Academic Başkent are also participating in the educational activities of the department in various ways. Most of the members of the Orchestra are attending their graduate studies along with their performances.
