BIO
Mustafa Sert received his M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Engineering, Faculty of Technology from Gazi University, Turkey, in 2001 and 2006, respectively. He served as the department vice chairman and as a faculty administrative board member of the Engineering Faculty during 2008-2012. From 2011, he also serves as a board member of the distance education center (BUZEM) of Başkent University. From 2009 to 2018, he has been working as a researcher in projects supported by TUBITAK at the Multimedia Database Lab of the Middle East Technical University (METU), working on machine analysis of semantic content extraction from audio signals and its applications to video concept detection, while holding his assistant professor of Computer Engineering position at Başkent University. He is currently an associate professor of computer science and engineering and senior lecturer at the Department of Computer Engineering of Baskent University. He is a board member of the Engineering Faculty of Baskent University.
Prof. Sert has research and teaching interests in theory and applications of audio signal processing, machine learning, computer vision, and multimedia databases. He mainly focuses on semantic content extraction from audio and video data, audio scene recognition, video concept detection, multimodality, and content modeling for multimedia search and retrieval. He serves in technical reviewing and organization committees of several international conferences including IEEE ICME (2019-), VLDB 2012, FUZZ-IEEE (2015, 2019-), IEEE ISM (2008-2009, 2017-), FQAS 2009, IEEE ICSC (2016-), IEEE IRC (2017), and IEEE BigMM (2016). He also serves as a reviewer of the IEEE&ACM TASLP, IEEE SPL, Springer MTAP, Springer SIVP, IEEE TII, IEEE Access, and IEEE TFS.
