We sailed 15 nM upwind to N from Tilos early in the morning and reached Nisiros Palos harbor at noon, a peaceful and safe place. Next day Dutch friends Frits and Carla came with their S/Y Meteor and found space next to us. Barış remembered drinking times with Frits, we call him "professional raki drinker" as he does not put water in raki, drinks it sek together with bear. We rented motor bikes (15 Euro/day) for site seeing on the island. The crater of the volcano is the most interesting place to see. There is hot gas and some boiling water output from several holes so there is a bad smell of sulfur. We went to the villages Nikkia, Emporios and to Mandraki which is the center of the island. It was around 5 pm and every shop was closed as it is the usual case but the worst thing was that the cash machine was out of order and the only bank was closed so we could not take any money...
We liked more Palos than Mandraki. There is no fee for mooring
nor for electric. Water is 5 Euros/day. There are only few restaurants with standard prices. The bakery is opened until 12pm and there is only one small market for basic things.
